Jose Feliciano To Perform For The Pope

Six-time Grammy winner Jose Feliciano is considered by many as the world’s “greatest living guitarist.” He has been deemed by the Associated Press as being “the first established Spanish-language artist to successfully cross over into American music.” Since the start of this year, he has already toured in Korea, Brazil, and India.

Upon invitation, Feliciano has agreed to cut short his planned tour of Australia to arrive back in New York—where he was raised— to join Pope Benedict XVI at a papal mass at Yankee Stadium on April 20th. Over 60,000 parishioners are expected to be present at the event.

In accordance with the Pope’s planned theme of “Hope,” Feliciano will perform three songs: “Lean On Me,” by Bill Withers Feliciano’s own internationally known hit “Che Sara,” and the Lee Greenwood classic, “God Bless The USA.” Feliciano will be joined on the bill by Harry Connick Jr. and the Irish singer Dana.
