Zaki Ibrahim Performs At Joe’s Pub

On Thursday, May 1st at 11:30, Zaki Ibrahim will perform for the first time at Joe’s Pub in New York City. The twenty-five year old vocalist from South Africa will take the stage at the popular venue just prior to the release of her live album, Eclectica (Episodes in Purple) on May 13th.

Zaki’s sound is thick with poetics and shaped by the diversity of her Apatheid-era hometown and household. Growing up, lessons of Islam fed into discussions of Buddhism, Sufi philosophies, courted drums, and Scottish folk songs. Signed with District Six Music, Zaki is more than an entertainer. She has utilized her music talent to aid in community based initiatives as well as facilitating activities for youths at risk. Zaki is a strong believer in building bridges across cultures. It is her philosophy that only an exchange between different peoples can lend to greater understanding and tolerance.
