The rumors that began circulating last week claiming the Latin rock band from Argentina, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs were getting back together proved true.
On Saturday, April 5th, the band’s label sent out a statement announcing that Los Cadillacs have been rehearsing and preparing a new album, which they are planning to release this October. Talk of a world tour is also in the works with the band planning to perform throughout Latin America, the United States and Europe.
The tour plans to kick off the first week in November with two concerts at Mexico City’s Foro Sol, followed by appearances in Colombia, Venezuela, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama, Ecuador, Peru, and Chile. The band—comprised of vocalist Vicentico, bassist Flavio Cianciarulo, saxophonist Sergio Rotman, keyboardist Mario Siperman, percussionist Fernando Ricciardi and trumpeter Daniel Lozano—will perform in cities in Spain, Germany, Switzerland, and the U.S. on the second leg of the tour, beginning in 2009.
Los Fabulosos Cadillacs became famous in Argentina in the late eighties and propelled Latin rock into the international spotlight. They are known for thrilling fans with their blend of rock, rap, ska, reggae, and traditional South American sounds for over ten years. Their genre-bending masterpiece ‘Fabulosos Calavera’ won the Grammys’ first award for “Best Latin Rock/ Alternative Album” in 1998. Songs like “Matador” and “Mal Bicho” were anthems for a generation and inspired thousands of youth and musicians across the globe. The group’s reputation led to collaborations with a variety of stars including Mick Jones (of The Clash), Deborah Harry (Blondie), Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth (of the Talking Heads), Fishbone, Celia Cruz and Ruben Blades.
On a sad note, the reunion of the band comes just weeks after the sudden death of the band’s percussionist, Gerardo ‘Toto’ Rotblatt, who was only 38 years old. He was discovered dead in his home from an apparent heart attack.
