Morocco's Master Musicians of Jajouka have been the guardians and heralds of transitional and transcendental experience for millennia. William Burroughs called them a "4,000-year-old rock band," Brian Jones recorded them just before he died, Ornette Coleman jammed with them, and now London-based Asian producer/DJ Talvin Singh is helping them make the jump into electronica. His Hindustani cross rhythms mix with the Jajoukan Afro-Arab beats, revealing Persian influences shared by both. While fusion experiments are evident, traditional Jajouka trance abounds, with mysterious jams spliced by drum loops and instrumental overdubs, remixed to create several very different versions of the same foundation.
