Altura Music

United Airlines employee Farooq Ahmad Khan turned from planes to platters. As DJ Pathaan, he specializes in what's called the "Balearic" sound, that gauzy, exotic summer house music echoing around Ibiza?Js expensive clubs. Pathaan goes farther by harvesting great artists remixing great artists. Titles tell all. Sunset gets the groove going on the "Napoli Trip" version (by Italy's Almamegretta) of Massive Attack's classic "Karmacoma." Pathaan's own Orchestral World Groove does "Didjeridub" ('nuff said) and Banzai Republic feat. Natasha Atlas espouses "Love Throughout The World." UK duo Hybrid go North African in "Marrakech" and The 1001 Nights Project feat. Dania "Leiley" are "Way Out" with the Transglobal Underground touch. Sunrise opens soothingly with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Michael Brook's "Shadow (State of Bengal Remix)" whilst Stephane Malca & Omar Faruk Tekbilek remain "In The Shade". Thievery Corporation tweaks Ustad Sultan Khan's "Tarana," followed by Brazilian "Volume" by Carla Alexander. Pathaan proves he's got the goods. Skip those ubiquitous Ibiza collections and get global.
