Stripped of the visuals, the theatrics, the tongue-in-cheek humor and, of course, the blue face makeup, Blue Man Group would be a relatively uninteresting techno-pop throwback to the ’80s. But that clever mix has made their conceptual show a success in several cities for close to two decades. The live performance DVD offers a hint of what all the fuss has been about, but not much more. One suspects that being in the midst of the action would be more convincing than watching the show in 2-D.
