Los Hombres Calientes revolves around the talents of acclaimed percussionist Bill Summers and the young, award-winning trumpeter Irvin Mayfield. In their four albums for Basin Street, the group has successfully merged strains of various Caribbean musics with traditional New Orleans jazz. In this live performance, the “Hot Men” live up to their chosen moniker—Mayfield, in particular, is a firecracker. The heaviest accent is on Cuban rhythms, Summers transforming the finale, “Night In Tunisia,” into an island celebration.
