World Music Portraits

With more than a half dozen titles under its belt, Shanachie’s “World Music Portraits” series has locked down a formula that works: a couple of parts documentary, one part concert film, done so well return viewers are guaranteed. Carlinhos Brown is the latest subject, an icon in the making in his homeland. Brown’s Afro-Brazilian percussion and songs represent the contemporary voice of Brazil. Here he delves into the roots of his sound, tours his neighborhood, sings and plays a bit, and pours on the natural charm.
