The Rhythm Road: American Music Abroad Heralds Its Fourth Year

Jazz at Lincoln Center (JALC) and The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs are pleased to collaborate once again on The Rhythm Road: American Music Abroad Tours.  Applications for the 2008-2009 program are now being accepted.

Jazz at Lincoln Center (JALC) is launching its fourth year of The Rhythm Road: American Music Abroad Tours.  Applications to audition for the 2008-2009 program are now being accepted, from American music groups from throughout the United States specializing in jazz, urban/hip hop and other American roots music including bluegrass, blues, Cajun, country, gospel and zydeco.

 

Each year, JALC and the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs co-produce a series of international tours in which such musicians are sent to regions including Africa, Asia, the Balkans, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.   International tour activities include public concerts, master classes, lecture demonstrations, workshops, jam sessions, media outreach and collaborations with local musicians. Over the past three years, 108 musicians from 28 ensembles have toured with the program, visiting 89 different countries on 5 continents.  

 

The application deadline is September 15, 2008.
