Set to have been released five months earlier, Curumin’s newest effort, Japan Pop Show is set to hit stores October 7.
Hailing from Sao Paulo, Brazil, Curumin’s new album is a follow up to his highly successful debut, Achados E Perdidos. The effort was so successful that the legendary DJ Shadow was compelled to release the young musician’s album on his own Quannum label.
While Achados E Perdidos blended funk, bossa, and hip-hop flavors, Japan Pop Show—which takes its name from an early-80s Brazilian variety program in the vein of The Ed Sullivan Show—includes 13 tracks which combine dense instrumentation with a modern beat conducting approach, topped off with Curumin's (aka Luciano Nakata Albuquerque's) distinct Portuguese croon. It’s sheer dance music, which carves out Curumin’s inimitable style of samba soul, now sprinkled with more afro-beat, dub and experimental funk.
