Womex Makes Initial Announcement Of Showcase Lineup

The World Music Expo has announced their lineup of artists who will showcase the WOMEX 08 event.

Deemed "The most important international professional market of world music of every kind” by UNESCO Alliance for Global Diversity, WOMEX is an international fair that congregates artists from a broad spectrum of genres worldwide to present music concerts, conferences and documentary films. Their encouragement of networking serves as an effective means of promoting music and culture of all kinds. In just 13 years, WOMEX has grown to host over 2,800 delegates and 1,400 companies from 90 countries, and over 1,000 concert and festival bookers.


The following is the lineup of artists whose talents will be showcased at WOMEX 08:


- Astillero (Argentina)

- Aurelio Martinez (Honduras)

Acclaimed for his modernization of the Paranda musical tradition, Aurelio’s virtuosity is found in his distinctive, penetrating vocals and his talent as a composer.


- Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni ba (Mali)

One of Mali’s best-known Ngoni players—living proof that the blues come from the region of Segu.


- Beats in the Heart of Orient (Iran/India/Greece/France)

Cimarron is one of the most recognized llanero groups in Colombia. Under the direction the composer and harpist Carlos "Cuco" Rojas, it has thrived for 20 years.
