Although the legendary Maria Bethânia opens this mellow collection with a fresh rendition of Jobim and De Moraes’ “Samba De Bênção,” the focus is really on younger, lesser-known artists. Vitor Ramil, Marcos Suzano and Katia B (who bears an uncanny vocal resemblance to Bebel Gilberto) seem to revel in “Que Horas Não São,” which looks back on the early days of a love affair. Moreno Veloso’s Orquestra Imperial skillfully recreates Chico Buarque’s classic “Sem Compromisso” in a gafiera (dancehall samba) format, while Clara Moreno and her famous mother Joyce share the vocals on the original “Sabe Quem?” The collection is rounded out by Gabriel Moura’s funk-inflected “O Perfuma Da Nega” and Chico Buarque’s “Outros Sonhos,” which renders an older man’s dreams of a long-gone childhood with a simple and nostalgic beauty.
