Tonight, Wednesday, April 9, 2008, WBGO-88.3 FM-will air The Django Reinhardt Festival at 6:30 p.m. Previously recorded live from the Kennedy Center this past November, Stratta Phillips Productions plans to also broadcast the performance “on demand” at jazzset.npr.org and at the station’s website, wbgo.org. The performance features Gypsy guitar legend Dorado Schmitt, violin virtuoso Florin Niculescu, accordionist Ludovic Bejer, guitarist Samson Schmitt and Brian Torff on bass.
Stratta and Phillips are also planning the 9th annual Django Festival for November of ’08 and have a concert in the works for July 30th at Rose Hall, Home of Jazz of Lincoln Center. The summer performance of “The Spirit of Django & Grappelli", featuring Dorado Schmitt and Regina Carter, celebrates Grappelli’s 100th birthday. Tickets will go on sale June 15th.
