Dedicated to preserving New Orleans Jazz, the world-renowned Preservation Hall Jazz is now on its North American tour, which started September 16 in Austin and will end in Toronto December 9. The band derives its name from the venerable music venue-The Preservation Hall which is located in the heart of the French Quarter in New Orleans, Louisiana. Founded in 1961 by Allan & Sandra Jaffe, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band tours the world serving as emissaries of New Orleans Jazz, the original American art form. The band received the 2006 National Medal of Arts from the United States.

The tour follows the July 24 release of Made in New Orleans: The Hurricane Sessions (MINO) which features a treasure trove of rare, unreleased recordings, archival material, live performance footage and more from the band’s archives. It highlights decades of the band’s recordings including the seminal track “Over in the Glory Land.” This lost track was originally recorded by Allan Jaffe in 1976 and uncovered in the post-Katrina debris of Allen Toussaint’s Sea-Saint Studios.

Following Hurricane Katrina, Benjamin Jaffe salvaged master tapes of early Preservation Hall Jazz Band recordings from the legendary Sea-Saint studios, which had been flooded by 6 feet of water. The tracks, originally produced by his father Allan Jaffe (1936-1987), inspired Benjamin to create a musical and visual experience that bridges the bands past, present and future. The Hurricane Sessions is a collection of songs some recorded Pre-Hurricane Katrina and some Post-Katrina that display the breadth and legacy of Preservation Hall. “Made in New Orleans demonstrates the significance of New Orleans Music as a timeless cultural art form,” states Benjamin Jaffe.

Made In New Orleans is available at Retailers nationwide, and is available for download at iTunes.
