Mexican Sessions—Our Simple Sensational Sound
Collision (Cause of Chapter 3)

Bristol, England’s Up, Bustle & Out collective has gone worldwide, releasing collections powered by Turkish and Latin sounds, cumbia, reggae, dub, and hip-hop. The group serenades Mexican-style on its eighth outing with grooves resulting from of visits to New York, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, California, and, sí, the Mexican Monterrey. Exuding mellow vibes, Mexican Sessions is a tropical chillfest bubbling with reggae, dub and cumbia, plus “Mexicali hip-hop” and rapping in Spanish. Not a fleck of gangster or urban element exists—this is a classy foray into a sunny day with waves lapping at the shore. Guest remixers and performers include DJ Mexican, Chico Sonido, NYC’s Blanquito Man & Fragment Crew, Mexico’s Control Machete and Sistema Local, Toy Selectah, and Cuffy “El Guapo.” Trumpets, sax, Rhodes piano, cous cous packets, coconut shells, and whatever was found on the beach comprise instrumentation.
