The Mexican acoustic metal guitar duo have emerged as breakout international stars over the past year, blowing away crowds for their fast and rhythmic instrumental guitar songs.

Citing exhaustion, Mexican acoustic-metal duo Rodrigo y Gabriela cancelled portions of their upcoming US fall tour. Previously, the group had announced the cancellation of their September schedule but most recently decided to can five additional October dates as well. The band released a statement explaining that Gabriela has suffered from exhaustion due to a hectic summer touring schedule.

“Advice from doctors is to take a few weeks off to relax so she can build up her strength,” the statement said. “Gabriela's high energy performances means that she has to be in top physical health to perform to the levels people expect and that she enjoys. Gabriela will be taking a month off to get back in shape for the October tour.”

Rodrigo y Gabriela have emerged as breakout international stars over the past year, blowing away crowds for their fast and rhythmic instrumental guitar songs. They were the featured artist for a week in late August on MTV’s new “52/52” campaign. This promotion includes original performances, interviews and behind the scenes footage of the band, equivalent to 11 hours of on-air commercial time per week.

The duo has also been nominated for a MTV Leftfield “Woodie” award alongside the Klaxons, CSS and The Knife. The Left Field Woodie, awarded to the “most original artist,” highlights the best of the genre-busters. Woodies are the only awards honoring the artists voted best by the college audience.

The revised fall touring schedule is as follows:
10/17 - Orpheum Theatre, Boston, MA
10/18 - Electric Factory, Philadelphia, PA
10/19 - Roseland Ballroom, New York, NY
10/21 - 9:30 Club, Washington, DC
