Sara Tavares Performing at Liberty Medal Gala Honoring Bono

The U2 Front Man will recieve the prestigious Liberty Medal presented by The National Constitution Center on September 27 in Philadelphia.

The Portuguese/ Cape Verdean crossover, Sara Tavares, will perform at the Liberty Medal Gala honoring Bono. The U2 front man will recieve the prestigious Liberty Medal presented by the National Constitution Center on September 27th In Philadelphia. Tavares will be performing during the Gala event following the award ceremony. Tickets are free and available on a first come first serve basis and can be ordered from ComcastTIX at 888-633-2572.

The Liberty Medal was established in 1988 by We The People in 2000. The medal annually honors an individual or organization that " demonstrated leadership and vision in the pursuit of liberty of conscience or freedom from oppression, ignorance or deprivation."

Past recipiants include Kofi Annan, George HW Bush, William J Clinton, Hamid Karzai, and Sandra Day O'Connor. This year's medal will be presented to Bono and DATA ( debt, AIDS, trade, Africa), the organization he co-founded to combat pooverty and disease in Africa. The performance by Sara Tavares comes on the front end of her North American tour. Tavares has been making waves with a recent feature in NPR and was part of Lucinda Williams' top ten list in the NY Times.
