Where's Governors Island? Governor's Island sits in the heart of New York Harbor, roughly 800 yards off the southern tip of Manhattan and half that distance from the Brooklyn waterfront. The only way onto the island is by Ferry from Manhattan.

The island's waterfront offers some of the most dramatic and impressive vistas of the New York skyline and New York Harbor, including the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. The northern half of the Island, consisting of approximately 92 acres, has been designated as both a National Historic Landmark District and a New York City Historic District.

Until 2003, when the island was transferred back to the State of New York, the island was off limits to most civilians. Take advantage of this new spot that most New Yorkers have never had the chance to visit before!
