Fifth Annual "Spirit of Django Reinhardt"

This year's concert features The John Jorgenson Quintet, considered one of the best interpreters of Reinhardt's material. Jorgenson’s quintet has astounded audiences worldwide, performing standards from the gypsy jazz repertoire.

The fifth annual “The Spirit of Django Reinhardt” concert will be happening on August 1 at the Frederick P. Rose Hall in Lincoln Center. The event will celebrate the music of the legendary gypsy guitarist and his musical style known as “Le Jazz Hot.”

This year's concert features The John Jorgenson Quintet, considered one of the best interpreters of Reinhardt's material. Jorgenson’s quintet has astounded audiences worldwide, performing standards from the gypsy jazz repertoire. He re-created Reinhardt's music for the feature films “Gattica” and also “Head in the Clouds” in which he portrayed the legendary guitarist with stars Charlize Theron and Penelope Cruz. Reinhardt is also a former member of the Elton John Band and has recorded with Sting, Pavarotti, Barbara Streisand and Benny Goodman.

Jorgensen will be joined by a collection of French gypsy stars including legendary lead guitarist Dorado Schmitt, lead and rhythm guitarist Samson Schmitt, virtuoso violinist Pierre Blanchard and accordionist Ludovic Beier (all returning due to popular demand).
