Published June 7, 2007

The legendary Fania Records label recently partnered with Wax Poetics to launch the first album in the Fania LIVE series, a new reinterpretation of the world famous classic salsa sound, with a live DJ set in New York City’s Meatpacking District.

Fania Records, the legendary label which recorded artists like Celia Cruz, Willie Colon, Hector Lavoe and Johnny Pacheco, recently partnered with Wax Poetics to launch the first album in the Fania LIVE series, a new reinterpretation of the world famous classic salsa sound, with a live DJ set in New York City’s Meatpacking District.

FANIA LIVE 01: From the Meat Market/DJ Rumor includes 20 timeless Fania tracks as re-imagined by DJ Rumor, a red-hot New York City DJ with an ear for club hits and smooth breakbeats. His mix brings out a new and exciting side of the Fania catalog, mixing the gems of the Latin soul, boogaloo and salsa and Latin jazz eras with contemporary dance music elements.

“I’ve always had a passion for old-school Fania records,” said DJ Rumor, a.k.a Brendan McCormack. “Getting the opportunity to bring back the classics from their catalog with different beats and sounds of my generation has been unbelievable.”

To kick off the release of this album, Fania and Wax Poetics invited music executives, members of the media, key retailers, and tastemakers to an exclusive performance by DJ Rumor who spun these tracks live at Gin Lane, a trendy restaurant in the heart of the Meatpacking District.

The LIVE Series tour will include additional performances throughout New York City and will continue on to Miami, San Francisco, Tokyo and Rome in the following months.
