Long Night Moon

Catie Curtis toured with Lilith Fair back in the ‘90s, and while many of her tourmates have disappeared, she continues to release consistently beautiful, personal records. Her sixth solo release, Long Night Moon, is gorgeously reserved and deeply heartfelt. Here she worked with her touring guitarist Mark Erelli, and the producer of Erelli’s solo releases, Lorne Entress, and the result is a 12-song collection that lure listeners in with a well-turned phrase, a hushed vocal, or a sly lyric about the luxuries of love. In fact, most of the songs here express the joy of being in love and it’s great to hear Curtis so happy and upbeat. But she also takes a barbed look at our current political situation in the Katrina-inspired single, “People Look Around.” While others strain to write or simply give up, Catie Curtis effortlessly lifts the spirit with big issues and simple pleasures.
