14th World Rhythm Festival to be Held April 13 - 15, 2007

Thousands are expected to participate in the drumming festival at the Seattle Center.

The Seattle World Percussion Society will present the 14th Seattle World Rhythm Festival at the Seattle Center Friday through Sunday, April 13, 14 and 15, 2007. The festival offers over 90 performances and workshops delivered by local, national, and international rhythm and dance artists.

The festival begins Friday with Family Day, where parents and children will enjoy discovering rhythm, drumming and dance activities together. The Friday Evening Celebration is at 7 pm on the Center House Main Stage. Simone LaDrumma, Seattle performer and teacher, will host the program, which features Paul Wagner, Alessandra Belloni, Paoli Mejias, Raquy & the Caveman, Pepe Danza,l Awal Alhassan, Saeed Abbas, Hari Pal, Thione Diop, Carolyn Brandy, and Jose Carrion.

Saturday and Sunday offer a variety of musical and dance performances, and workshops for beginners as well as advanced players and dancers. Sessions will be held in the Center House, and in Seattle Center Pavilion Buildings A & B. The Saturday Dance Party at 8 pm in the Center House will feature the hot African and world music sounds of Saeed Abbas & Nye Gyame Ensemble, and Pepe Danza & the Wave Collection.

The Festival Marketplace will be open on Saturday and Sunday in Fisher Pavilion. Vendors will be selling world class percussion, drums and other imports.

The World Rhythm Festival one of the largest events of its type in the world, distinct for its participatory nature and diversity of musical offerings. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own instruments to experience a rare opportunity to learn from and play with musical masters. Admission is free to all Festival events.
