Published October 23, 2006

Kicking off November 30th, the innovative ambassadors of Yiddish culture and eclectic musicianship will be celebrating the festival of lights with a twist of Woody Guthrie and a December tour.

This holiday season will feature candles in the window, family gatherings -- and a new holiday tradition, courtesy of The Klezmatics.  Kicking off November 30th, the innovative ambassadors of Yiddish culture and eclectic musicianship will be celebrating the festival of lights with a twist, as they launch their first ever tour performing the Hanukkah songs of Woody Guthrie. The tour will highlight songs from the recently released 'Woody Guthrie's Happy Joyous Hanukkah' (JMG), a collection of never before published Hanukkah lyrics penned by Guthrie -- borne of the legendary songwriter's deep roots in Coney Island --  and arranged and performed by The Klezmatics.

The tour will be a new high mark in an incomparable year for The Klezmatics.  The group recently released two albums, 'Happy Joyous Hanukkah' and 'Wonder Wheel' (Lyrics By Woodie Guthrie).  'Happy Joyous Hanukkah' promises to be a breakout holiday hit and 'Wonder Wheel' has already been recognized as one of the year's best:  In a glowing 4 star review, Blender magazine says the album demonstrates that indeed "clarinets can rock", while the Chicago Sun Times says 'Wonder Wheel' "skips merrily out of the speakers and becomes the life of the party."  The Klezmatics were recent Jewish Music Award honorees, and have toured the US and Europe throughout the year.
