Robert Johnson Guitar For Sale

The Gibson L1 guitar that blues legend Robert Johnson owned and played is for sale. Sold by Moments In Time Manuscripts Inc., the guitar’s asking price is listed at www.rjguitar.com for $6 million. According to the web site, the guitar is well played and marked, but structurally perfect. There is a great deal of wear on the finger board as well. The guitar also comes with the original double arched plywood case, which like the guitar has seen plenty of use, but is also in structurally solid condition.

There is no information about who the owner is, nor where the guitar has been since Johnson’s death, but the unique characteristics of the instrument are matched to the classic Johnson photo shot by Hooks Bros. in 1935 that is used on the cover of The Complete Recordings boxed set. Private viewing of the instrument is by invitation. No word on whether they take pay pal.
