The film, directed by Bernadine Santistevan, is a supernatural thriller based on the 500-year old Latin American legend of Llorona, an anguished, vengeful spirit acknowledged across Latin America and by 28 million believers in the U.S. alone. The Cry will have its world premiere on Friday, May 12, at the Lensic Theater in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in recognition of the director’s roots in the American Southwest and the fact that over half of the 28 million believers reside in the Southwest.  Release plans for the film will be announced soon.

The Cry stars Carlos Leon (The Woodsman, Big Lebowski), Adriana Dominguez (Bridge of San Luis Rey, Noviembre), Christian Camargo (K-19 The Widowmaker), Miriam Colon (All the Pretty Horses, Lone Star), and Kate Blumberg (Picture This).

Del Castillo recorded a new version of the traditional song “La Llorona,” featuring fellow Austin musician Patricia Vonne,  that is played under the opening and end credits of the film.  In addition to the new recording, three of Del Castillo’s songs are included in the film: “Talkin’ To Ya,” from their just- released CD, Brotherhood, “Sueños Madrigales” and “Don Nicolas” from their award-winning second CD, Vida.

Del Castillo, the band that has melded Flamenco, Rock, Latin, Blues, and World music to become a cross-cultural phenomenon, is comprised of brothers Rick and Mark del Castillo on twin lead Spanish guitars, charismatic vocalist Alex Rui
