New Chapter
Legacy/Columbia

Formed in London in 1975, the British reggae collective Aswad released New Chapter originally in 1981. Having flirted previously with a more commercial reggae approach and with crossover pop, Aswad came back here with a classic roots sound, alternately lushly harmonic/romantic and brassy/soulful. The onetime Grammy nominees dabble in Rastafarian themes, but Brinsley Dan Forde is at his best when crooning love songs such as “I Will Keep On Loving You” and “Didn’t Know At The Time.” “Tuff We Tuff” is righteous and upbeat, the highlight of this 15-track showcase. The reissue includes four bonus tracks taken from 1981 12-inch singles.
