Seu Jorge
October 31, 2005
Barbican Hall

"An easy charm, an ability to surprise - Jorge is an unquestioned star.” The Guardian

Hailed by The Times as “The coolest man on the planet”, City of God film star Seu Jorge uses simple and wise street poetry, a lyrical guitar and percussion to craft intense urban sambas as showcased on his recent album Cru. Live Jorge combines his own songs with those of Gainsbourg and Elvis as well as his reinvention of David Bowie’s seventies oeuvre as heard in his reel-stopping takes on Rebel Rebel, Life On Mars? etc. in Wes Anderson’s film The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. But Seu Jorge is no novelty and his commanding stage-presence, poetic vision and musical range make him a worthy successor to the Brazilian crown of Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso. Following a packed UK debut at the Festival Hall in La Linea in the spring Jorge makes a welcome return to London.
