One of the most brilliant, peripatetic and moody popular singers in Africa, Salif Keita is sounding uncharacteristically contented these days. In the past, one never knew what to expect from Keita, as he moved through forays into French pop, jazz fusion, folklore and heavy rock. Now, he’s made two albums using essentially the same band, and the same mostly African, mostly acoustic approach. This is not coincidence. Keita says that after all these years, he’s found his true sound.
