This jazz giant studied at the knee of the legendary Thelonious Monk, taking piano lessons from the master. But Weston also has a long and abiding interest in African music and culture, tracing his own heritage through the Caribbean and back to the homeland. He’s also spent a lot of time in the last 40 years living in Morrocco, even opening a jazz club at one point. Fusing cultures and music on record is nothing new for Weston, but the pianist has a fine new trio album entitled Zep Tepi that reminds us how far reaching his muse is.
