On February 20 UCLA Live announced its March - June line-up. The season includes artists like Grammy-nominated Perú Negro, Grammy winners Angelique Kidjo and Jessye Norman, and Qawwali musicians Mehr and Sher Ali, all performing their critically-acclaimed work. Jazz trio Keith Jarrett, pianist, Gary Peacock, bassist, and Jack DeJohnette, percussionist, kick of the season on March 5 with a performance that will celebrate highlights from each musician’s career. In a rare appearance, legendary American lyricist and composer Stephen Sondheim will explore his career with friend and New York Times’ columnist Frank Rich on March 13. Another UCLA Live exclusive, Azar Nafisi and Marjane Satrapi, two of Iran’s leading feminist voices, will be joined in a discussion moderated by award-winning arts and culture journalist Alicia Anstead. Literary icon and humorist David Sedaris concludes the season on Saturday, June 28 with a reading featuring material from his new book, When You Are Engulfed in Flames and a book signing will follow. UCLA Live’s season will also feature Leila Haddad and the Gypsy Musicians of Upper Egypt in their US debut as well as jazz diva Dianne Reeves, whose influences range from Afro-Caribbean to gospel to contemporary pop, with Russell Malone and Romero Lubambo on guitars.
