The Return of Joe's Pub In The Park
Published August 2, 2007

Returning for the first time since it was initially staged in 2004, Joe's Pub In The Park captures the quality and range of performances that have made Joe's Pub, now in its ninth year, one of the most acclaimed and popular clubs in New York City. From September 19 through September 30 Pub in the Park brings talent and diversity to The Delacorte Theater, which is the annual home of Shakespeare in the Park. Drawing from a pool of the literally thousands of artists that have performed at Joe's Pub, the series' programming brings together a selected cross-section of some of the Pub's favorites including Lesley Gore, the most commercially successful solo artist of the Girl Group era of the 1960s with hits "It's My Party," "Judy's Turn to Cry" and the proto-feminist "You Don't Own Me." Also performing are two-time Best Contemporary Folk Album Grammy nominee Patty Griffin, New Orleans icon and Rock-and-Roll Hall-of-Famer Allen Toussaint, Italian pop star Carmen Consoli, acclaimed Brazilian vocalist Luciana Souza, New York's own singer-songwriter Morley, Balkan hip-hop group Balkan Beat Box and many more.

Also featured is an all-star collective commemorating the memory of T. Rex leader Marc Bolan and a 40th Anniversary celebratory concert featuring Hair, the American tribal love-rock musical, [which premiered at The Public Theater on October 17, 1967 and ran for six weeks before moving to Broadway on April 29, 1968 and subsequently running for 1,873 performances. Cast for these performances are to be announced. Not to be forgotten is a presentation of the Theater's latest rock musical, Passing Strange.

More than half of the Joe's Pub In The Park performances are free. Tickets for free shows will be available on the day of the performance (two per person) at The Delacorte Theater in Central Park beginning at 1PM and at The Public Theater, 425 Lafayette Street (near Astor Place), from 1PM to 3PM. The closest entrances to The Delacorte are at 81st Street and Central Park West or 79th Street and Fifth Avenue.
