The 41st Quebec City Summer Festival
Published May 30, 2008

From July 3 to 13, 200 performers will grace the stage at the 41st Quebec City Summer Festival. The event will commemorate the 400th anniversary of the founding of Québec City.

Among the performers are Wyclef Jean, the ex-singer, guitarist and hip-hop icon of the Fugees, preceded by popular singer-songwriter Akon. This show is a further addition to the stellar line-up of concerts announced last March as part of the “Grands Événements Desjardins.” Two other blockbuster acts, NOFX and Stone Temple Pilots, will set sparks flying on July 4 and 13. The first weekend will also showcase the singer Feist, the top winner at this year’s Juno Awards, the major event of its kind in the Canadian music industry, as well as several masterworks of the late, legendary Frank Zappa, to be interpreted by his nimble-fingered son Dweezil. The Chicago-based five-piece known as Plain White T’s, whose hit “Hey There Delilah” continues to enjoy considerable air time, will appear on July 11, while the French slammer Grand Corps Malade will bring the series to a poetic conclusion on July 13.

Furthermore, a barrage of general audience events will take place, alternating with performances by musicians from the world over, including:

Argentina: Orquesta Tipica Imperial

Benin: Angélique Kidjo, winner of a 2008 Grammy award for best world music album

Brazil: Cyro Baptista & Beat the Donkey

Canada: Genticorum, Alain-François, Bazirka, Zéphyr Artillerie, Juan Sebastian Larobina, Matching Keys, LaTourelle Orkestra, Magnolia, Ghislain Poirier, Rodéoscopique, PhoneTheMental, Romulo Larrea

Cape Verde: Mayra Andrade

Catalonia: Jaleo Real, Gertrudis

France: Bratsch, Las Ondas Marteles, René Lacaille (Réunion)

Jamaica/United States: The Wailers
