Sweet Honey In The Rock Hits The Road In Support Of Experience... 101
Published September 20, 2007

The award-winning female African-American a cappella group Sweet Honey In The Rock will undertake a series of concert dates to celebrate the September 25th release of Experience...101, its first CD for the Appleseed Recordings label. The delightfully buoyant new CD is intended to offer young listeners some of life's basic lessons through 18 exuberant songs.

The quintet of vocalist/percussionists, which also includes an onstage sign language interpreter, has been internationally embraced for its genre-spanning mixture of gospel, folk, blues, rap, and ethnic styles, using a magically interwoven blend of voices, meaningful lyrics, and a heartfelt commitment to entertain, inspire, and educate.

Experience...101, a family-oriented CD, lyrically addresses peaceful coexistence, the virtues of education, following one's moral/spiritual compass, the nurturing support of parents and elders, and working to improve the surrounding world. This is music that parents will enjoy playing for their youngsters and will enjoy listening to themselves. Sweet Honey emphasizes its African heritage in the CD's colorful packaging by matching each song's theme to Ghanaian Adinkra symbols indicating unity, wisdom, strength, harmony, good fortune, and other life-affirming emotions.

"I can see the children dancing and singing and laughing when they hear Experience...101," endorses world famous poet, author and educator Maya Angelou.

Sweet Honey's upcoming tour dates, which will mix Experience...101 songs with material from its 20 releases to date, are sure to appeal to adults and young people alike.
