Spanish Harlem Orchestra To Perform At S.O.B.’s May 16
Published May 1, 2007

Wednesday May 16th
S.O.B.'s Latin Concerts Presents:
Spanish Harlem Orchestra
Record Release Party - United We Swing
Doors: 9:30 PM
Show: 10:00 PM
Admission: $20 (Including a copy of the new CD, United We Swing)

Spanish Harlem Orchestra (SHO) brings its all-star lineup and classic-meets-contemporary salsa sound to S.O.B.’s to celebrate the release of their new album United We Swing. Spanish Harlem Orchestra represents the musical legacy of El Barrio, a pulsating Eastside community in NYC located to the south of 125th Street that gave rise to Boogaloo, Latin Soul, and Salsa. Spanish Harlem Orchestra will be a welcome edition to the rich tradition of salsa at S.O.B.’s.

Since it opened its doors 25 years ago, S.O.B.’s has established itself as the undeniable home for salsa in downtown Manhattan, setting trends along the way and hosting legendary live performances by the likes of Celia Cruz and Tito Puente. Members of Spanish Harlem Orchestra have recently lit up the stage at S.O.B.’s; horns master Jimmy Bosch is a favorite at the club’s Friday night after work function, Salsa Groove, and vocalist Frankie Vasquez blew the audience away at the last installation of the monthly Salsa Meets Jazz series. Now, these two legitimate bandleaders fall in line to take part in the ensemble of musical genius that is Spanish Harlem Orchestra.

Since their arrival in 2000, Spanish Harlem Orchestra has established itself as a standard bearer of contemporary Latin music. Directed by world-renowned pianist, arranger, and producer Oscar Hernández, the thirteen-member ensemble has reintroduced the classic sounds of New York City Salsa to music lovers worldwide. United We Swing, Spanish Harlem Orchestra’s third album, is a stunning follow-up to their 2004 Grammy award-winning album Across 110th St., and their 2002 Grammy nominated debut, Un Gran Día En El Barrio.

Check out the upcoming July issue of Global Rhythm magazine, which will include a feature article on the Spanish Harlem Orchestra.
