After eight years of composition, recording and countless hours of study, Sir Paul McCartney readies for the September 26th release of his full-length classical album, which is his fourth since crossing over in 1991, when he released Liverpool Oratorio.
Ecce Cor Meum, or “Behold My Heart,” is an oratorio in four movements. This album takes a new direction: much of it will be sung in Latin – which McCartney studied at The Liverpool Institute High School for Boys – but includes English portions as well.
The album features English chamber orchestra The Academy of Saint Martin in the Fields and is sung by soprano Kate Royal, The Boys of King’s College Choir, Cambridge and The Boys of Magdalen College Choir, Oxford.
McCartney recognizes Latin as an international language for choirs, and said the conception was for “a choral piece, which could be sung by young people the world over in the same way that Handel's 'Messiah' is.”
