Tijuana's electronic music leaders Nortec Collective have announced the May 6th release of Bostich + Fussible: Tijuana Sound Machine out on Nacional Records. Fans are already familiar with the stylings of Bostitch and Fussible since they were the masterminds behind hit tracks "Tengo La Voz", "Tijuana Bass" and "Tijuana Makes Me Happy" off the double Latin Grammy-nominated album, Tijuana Sessions, Vol. 3 (Nacional). The new album will be available at digital outlets on April 29th, just in time for Cinco de Mayo, and in stores May 6th. Nortec Collective Presents Bostitch + Fussible will be performing several album release parties in early May with a four-piece backing band (see dates at bottom of release).
"With Tijuana Sessions, Vol. 3, we focused on fusing vocoders, synthesizers and drum machines with the Norteño flavor," explains Pepe Mogt (Fussible). "This time around, we really relied more on the acoustic sound. We tried to achieve a better balance between the acoustics and the electronics. While some tracks on Tijuana Sound Machine aren't even a month old yet, others have been around for a couple of years. We actually wrote many of these songs while on the road promoting Tijuana Sessions."
Following the tremendous critical and industry acclaim for Tijuana Sessions, Vol. 3, Nortec Collective toured the world, performing for ecstatic fans from Latin America and the United States, to Europe, Japan and Australia. They have performed in the past at shows and venues like Coachella, Rokslide Festival (Denmark), Sonar Festival (Barcelona), Smithsonian Institute (Washington, DC), Vive Latino (Latin America's Coachella), Kennedy Center (Washington, DC), Bellas Artes Palace (Mexico City), Mutek.MX (Mexico City), Ultra Festival (Miami) and Decibel Festival (Seattle).
"In every place we have toured to, whether it is Australia, Japan or the U.S., crowds respond differently," Fussible explains. "Even in Mexico, the response changes from town to town. But when it comes down to it, they are coming to our shows for the music, no matter whether they found it through a friend or online. So they are super enthusiastic either way. The real fun challenge comes when we play at festivals with audiences that are hearing our music for the first time."
Nortec Collective scored two Latin Grammy nominations for Tijuana Sessions, Vol. 3 (2005), including "Best Alternative Music Album" and "Best Recording Package". Latin America's most important electronic act received glowing praise for the album from such prestigious outlets as Rolling Stone, LA Times, XLR8R, and the NY Times, and saw the release hit #1 on top digital retailers iTunes and eMusic in the first week of its release. The group's music has appeared in commercials for Volvo, Dell, Fidelity Mutual, Edwin Jeans (with Brad Pitt), Nissan, and many others. Tracks from Tijuana Sessions, Vol. 3 can also be heard in HBO's "Big Love", NBC's "Friday Night Lights" and the movies Fast Food Nation and Babel as well as the video games, "FIFA Soccer" and "FIFA Street 2."
An interactive coffee table book entitled Paso del Nortec- This Is Tijuana, dedicated to the Nortec phenomena was released in the U.S., Mexico and Europe. In addition, Professor Alejandro Madrid, a musicologist and cultural theorist at University of Illinois - Chicago, recently released Nortec-Rifa! Electronic Dance Music From Tijuana To The World. The Nortec Collective is comprised of five artists: Fussible (Pepe Mogt), Bostitch (Ramón Amezcua), Panóptica (Roberto Mendoza), Clorofila (Jorge Verdín) and Hiperboreal (PG Beas).
