The Red Hot Organization (www.redhot.org), an international organization known for its compilation albums dedicated to fighting AIDS through pop culture, presented the Red Hot and Rumi program July 17 at New York City's Joe's Pub. Following his recent Red Hot And Riot Tribute to Fela Kuti album, Paul Heck produced this new album and live concert with underground Iranian rap, rock and R&B artists collaborating with New York-based collective The Marksmen.
This unique project brings together Iranian and American musicians for the 800th anniversary of the great Persian poet Rumi's birth. Together, the performers reflected musically on Rumi's work, his heritage and his meaning for the modern world.
As is method of approach to the other Red Hot projects, Red Hot and Rumi mixes and matches: in this case Persian music scales and Farsi lyrics are fused to the Marksmen's bold and beat driven production styles. Plans for the release of the album will be announced in the coming months.
