Published November 28, 2005

The two new concerts are streamed live from the prestigious 9:30 Club, a Washington, D.C. venue known for booking breakthrough performers in all genres, including rock, punk, hip-hop and country.  NPR Music’s concerts have been listened to via NPR.org nearly 800,000 times, and concert-related NPR.org pages have been viewed more than 1.75 million times.

The hit audio webcasts, produced under the All Songs Considered banner, launched in January 2005 and has featured 14 live events to date.  The series has a global fan base through the Internet with an overwhelming response from across the U.S. as well as worldwide, including Scandinavia, Australia, Asia and the Middle East.

Besides streaming live, both concerts will be archived on NPR.org, which allows fans to enjoy the full concerts on-demand, any time.  Additionally, the entire Iron and Wine with Calexico concert will be available to download, and select songs will be offered in a special NPR All Songs Considered Podcast.

The upcoming concerts:

November 30: Iron and Wine with Calexico.  Iron and Wine and Calexico are touring together to promote their new album “In the Reins.” Iron and Wine is the stage name for Florida native Sam Beam, a teacher of cinematography and a writer and singer of songs that are themselves small intimate movies, while Calexico’s music incorporates elements of jazz, folk, country, mariachi and electronics.

December 6: Sinead O’Connor and Sly & Robbie.  Sinead O’Connor is now touring with Sly & Robbie, the legends of reggae rhymes, to promote her new album, which features a collection of reggae classics.

Past concerts in this series featured Wilco, The White Stripes, The Shins, Sigur Ros, David Gray, Lucinda Williams, Secret Machines, The Kings of Leon, Bloc Party, The Decemberists, Interpol, Bright Eyes, Son Volt, My Morning Jacket and Death Cab for Cutie.  NPR.org also offered the “Higher Ground Hurricane Relief Concert” presented by Jazz at Lincoln Center and featuring such artists as Norah Jones, James Taylor and Elvis Costello.  All of these past concerts can be heard anytime at www.NPR.org/music

The NPR Music brand extends through broadcast, satellite radio, original online content, merchandise and, most recently, the successful NPR Podcasts.  A podcast version of All Songs Considered has consistently ranked as one of the most-downloaded offerings on such directories as iTunes and Yahoo.  This month, All Songs Considered introduced the podcast “Open Mic Music," showcasing work of new artists, who also record the opening of the podcasts to explain the<
