Dominican singer-songwriter Juan Luis Guerra swept the 2007 Latin Grammys, winning a total of six awards for everything from Album Of The Year to Song Of The Year and towering over various presenters throughout the evening. The show was held in Las Vegas for the first time, and looked it performances were glitzy and over-the-top, combining the innate showmanship of Latin pop with weird cameos from Vegas mainstays like the Blue Man Group and wildly feather- and glitter-adorned showgirls. Other multi-award winners included Calle 13, who performed alongside Orishas and percussionists from Stomp, and Ricky Martin, who opened the show drumming along with the Blue Man Group. Befitting the popularity of Mexican music in the U.S., the majority of awards given out during the first half of the show were for Mexican acts like mariachi legend Pepe Aguilar and sibling singer-songwriter duo Jesse & Joy, who won Best New Artist. But later on, reggaeton seemed to take over, as performances by Daddy Yankee, Calle 13 and Ivy Queen were received with great enthusiasm by the crowd.
