While the LAMC is a four-day conference that takes place for the purpose of marketing Spanish-language alternative music, this annual event also features art, parties, panels and exhibits. Here are a few gigs that we are particularly excited about.
Joe’s Pub - Allá will be performing at 7 p.m. on July 8. Not an official show, but here's a chance to see the Chicago band do its regular set. The band is also scheduled to perform during the LAMC on July 9 from 8 p.m. – 1 a.m.  Allá recently released their debut album Es Tiempo, which features 16 guest performers and was four years in the making. The Chicago-based trio defines their unique style of music as Latin/Psychedelic/Pop.
Ximena Sariñana will be playing at the Bowery Ballroom on Thursday, July 10 from 9 p.m. – 1 a.m. The Mexican singer/actress will be releasing her solo debut album Mediocre on July 15, which has already been a huge success in Mexico.
The Brazilian Girls will be performing with Chicha Libre and Ticklah on Friday, July 11 from 7:30 p.m. – 11 p.m. at The Roosevelt Hotel. Ironically, none of the members of The Brazilian Girls are Brazilian, and the only girl in the group is the lead singer, who was born in Rome. The group has a brand new CD coming out on August 5. Chicha Libre is a band that has been together for years but has just released their first studio album in April 2008. They are a Brooklyn-based band who plays Peruvian-style punk. One of our favorites of 2007, Victor Axelrod's Ticklah Vs. Axelrod mixed dub, reggae, funk, and Latin music.
Julietta Venegas, DJ Bitman and Plastilina Mosh will be performing on Saturday, July 12th (from 3 p.m. - 7 p.m.) at the Central Park Summerstage Show at Rumsey Playfield. Mexican singer/songwriter Julietta Venegas is already a huge star as she releases her fifth album MTV Unplugged, which includes a few new songs along with some older tunes. Originally from Chile, DJ Bitman made his debut as a solo artist in 2007 with the release of Latin Bitman. Plastilina Mosh is a Mexican duo who is due to come out with their fifth album All U Need Is Mosh on August 5.
