Argentina-based songstress Juana Molina is set to release her latest album Son this May on Domino Records. Molina's quiet juxtaposition of layered sound was praised on her last two albums, Segundo and Tres Cosas, the latter of which was named a New York Times Top 10 record of 2004.
On Son, her classic mixture of acoustic guitars, traditional percussion touches, electronic textures and her disarming vocals makes it as evocative as it is charming. Molina wrote, recorded and produced the album herself at her home studio in Buenos Aires.
Molina has toured with artists such as Savath and Savalas, David Byrne (a fan!), Belle and Sebastian and Sam Prekop, among others. Even though Molina sings in her native Spanish, she doesn't make world music in any traditional sense.
Molina's music has been raved about in the pages of Spin, Rolling Stone and Blender. This new album continues to defy categorization; it's a
reflective, self-produced peek into the world of Juana Molina. Expect to see Molina on tour this summer.
