Jose Negroni And Aquiles Baez To Be Featured On "A Taste of Cacao"
Published February 12, 2008

Negroni Trio will appear  Thursday, March 6 performing music from their new album, "Father & Son." The Aquiles Baez Quintet will appear Friday, March 7 and perform music from "La Patilla (The Watermelon)." Both CDs have been released by the acclaimed Venezuelan jazz and world music label, Cacao Musica.

Jose Negroni of Negroni Trio has been nominated for a Grammy for Best Latin Jazz Album of 2005 for his last CD,“Piano/Drums/Bass.” “Father & Son,” his latest effort, further strengthens his reputation as a skilled virtuoso pianist and composer. Joined by his son Nomar on drums (hence the CD's title) and Marco Panascia on bass, the recording showcases the pianist’s versatility as a player and arranger.

Venezuelan guitar virtuoso and cuatro master Aquiles Báez of The Aquiles Baez Quintet plans to present 12 new harmonically sophisticated compositions. These compositions are a mere sampling of Baez’ talent as an instrumentalist and arranger of innovative, genre-defying pieces fusing jazz, classical and Latin American folk music. Báez has appeared on Grammy® nominated CDs by Danilo Pérez and Paquito d’Rivera and collaborated with the likes of  John Patitucci, Richard Bona, and Luciana Souza. He received the Premio Nacional del Artista for best arranger of the year in Venezuela, as well as Berklee’s William Leavitt Award for his work on movie soundtracks and dance and theatre scores.

Latin music label Cacao Musica first entered the North American music scene with the efforts of founders Omar Jeanton and Bobby Abreu, who were intent on aptly presenting their Venezuelan culture on the world stage. Said Jeanton, “Cacao intends to play a major role in raising the international profile of these magnificent artists who have remained unknown and obscure for far too long.”
