Malian guitarist Habib Koité and his band Bamada will debut their latest, most recent and critically acclaimed album Afriki in North America. On May 1st, he and the band will perform in New York City at the Highline Ballroom.
Released last fall, Afriki showcases Koite’s unique and innovative approach to the diverse styles of Malian music. The explores the pertinent themes in Africa, including the continent’s the strengths and challenges, boldly drawing on styles from the different regions of Mali instead of sticking to one familiar region. He has gained a strong fan base by integrating the rock and folk sounds of the Western world, without compromising his Malian roots.
From an appearance on the Late Night with David Letterman to nearly a thousand concerts on some of the world’s most prestigious stages, Habib Koité is one of Africa’s most beloved and popular musicians.
