Flogging Molly's Road To Success Chronicled In Feature-Length Documentary Out July 25
Published May 3, 2006

Shot over two years and in seven countries, the feature-length documentary "Whiskey on a Sunday," due JULY 25 on SideOneDummy Records, is an intimate portrait of the Irish-infused rock band Flogging Molly. The 106-minute film tracks the eclectic group of musicians from their bar-band roots to their current success, including footage of them in the studio recording their latest album, "Within a Mile of Home," on tour, at home, and concludes with a triumphant sold-out homecoming performance at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles.

"Whiskey on a Sunday" is an intriguing, heart wrenching and informative look at the candid and charismatic Flogging Molly family. It showcases the seven unique individuals that make up the band, from former pro skater turned accordionist Matt Hensley to the lone female, the reserved
and gentle fiddle/ tin whistle player Bridget Regan. But ultimately the film revolves around singer/ guitarist Dave King and his life. Throughout the film King pours his heart out about growing up in war-torn Dublin, his father's premature death and his exile in the United States, where he wasn't allowed to return to Ireland to see his mother for eight years. It's this compelling subject matter that he draws on for his lyrical content.

Brought together through unlikely happenstance and bound by an intense passion and heartfelt belief in what they do, the seven members and their associates show that dedication coupled with a vision can indeed become reality. Set to the driving beat of their thunderous live performances, "Whiskey" provides a great look at how things can be done against the grain. Bucking tradition, industry naysayers and inflexible business models, King and crew illustrate their own formula for success: believing in oneself, refusing to be pigeonholed, and rising from humble beginnings to fulfill a dream.

"In the early days, a lot of people thought [we were], I don't mean a 'joke' band, but a novelty band in the sense, 'oh here we are, trying to play punk rock with fiddles and accordions and tin whistles.' That was never the case," expresses King in the film. "When we got in a room and
started playing together, something took over. The music we were playing was the real fucking deal. It was as real as any Rolling Stones' song, it was as real as any fucking Who song, as real as any Sex Pistols, as real as anything...for us seven people."

The DVD will be accompanied by an album comprised of acoustic recordings, live tracks and a new studio recording, "Laura," which is featured in the film.

Flogging Molly will play a variety of festivals and one off shows this summer, following a brief Australian run supporting Story of the Year. They will then tour Europe and the UK as well as make a pit stop in Tokyo for the Fuji Rock Festival.

Flogging Molly tour dates here.
