ECCODEK To Release Voices Have Eyes On White Swan Records, April 24, 2007
Published March 9, 2007

One April 24, ECCODEK (aka Canadian producer Andrew McPherson) returns to the global music arena with Voices Have Eyes - the follow up to 2004’s widely acclaimed More Africa in Us. ECCODEK’s Voices Have Eyes continues to explore the crossroads where global groove, dub and electronica meet. With six featured singers on the album from countries as diverse as Mali, Turkey, Fiji, Rwanda, Nigeria and India, and a live six piece band presentation, this release looks to be as genre defying as the last.

Voices Have Eyes features the mesmerizing talent of Malian kora master Mansa Sissoko, the seductive beauty of Juno Award-winning Indo-Canadian vocalist Kiran Ahluwalia, Fijian powerhouse Akuila Qumi and the tribal meltdown of Fiji’s Savusavu Choir among others. Rest assured the familiar bone rattling bass, spaced out production, hypnotizing grooves and soaring exotic melodies are all here, taking on a fierce power when presented live by the six piece groove juggernaut. With Voices Have Eyes ECCODEK continues to expand on the global groove and dub palate shaped by such innovators as African Headcharge, Bill Laswell, Mad Professor and Kruder and Dorfmeister.

No stranger to collaboration, McPherson has worked with a host of Canadian and international talent. Canada’s Natalie MacMaster, Jane Siberry, Philosopher Kings, Ireland’s Andy White, Seattle’s Pigeonhed and Iceland’s gusgus have all benefited from his distinctive textural production approach. In 2006 McPherson signed a North American deal with White Swan World/Rykodisc and recently contributed to National Geographic’s GeoRemix project; rubbing shoulders with artists Karsh Kale, Antibalas, Nitin Sawhney and Bombay Dub Orchestra. McPherson also recently completed a remix of “Wosoubour” by Vieux Farka Touré, son of the late two-time Grammy winner, Ali Farka Touré.
