Amidst a season filled with symphonies, Carnegie Hall presents a Bernstein Tribute, Honor!, a celebration of the African American legacy by Jessye Norman, and brings to the stage artists from around the world. Performances by tabla master Zakir Hussain, Peruvian Diva Eva Ayllón, Flamenco sensation Estrella Morente,chamamé musician Chango Spasiuk and more are scheduled.
September through December will commemorate the 90th anniversary of Leonard Bernstein’s birth and the 50th anniversary of his appointment as music director of the New York Philharmonic. The performances will provide a look at the extent Bernstein’s work has had on New York’s role in both the American and international musical cultures
Throughout the month of March, Carnegie Hall presents Honor! Curated by Jessye Norman, this program looks at the multitude of musical expression in African American culture, including blues, gospel, jazz, soul and hip-hop. Norman will also honor the courageous artists of the past with concerts, recitals, lectures, panel discussions and exhibitions at sites around the city. Featured artists include Jessye Norman, Dee Dee Bridgewater and The Philadelphia Orchestra, and will also feature readings from the writings of Duke Ellington and Langston Hughes.
