WOMEX
October 25, 2006 - October 29, 2006
Sevilla , SPAIN

WOMEX (World Music Expo), a festival dedicated to the networking of  world, folk, roots, ethnic, traditional, local and diaspora music, will take place from October 25 to October 29, 2006 in Sevilla, Spain.

The festival is loaded with the essential contacts and networking opportunities needed to bridge the gap between musical, political, cultural or commerical interests and ideas.

Previous WOMEX editions have taken place in Brussels, Berlin, Marseilles, Stockholm, Rotterdam, Essen, Sevilla and Newcastle Gateshead. The gathering of over 2100 delegates from 84 countries at last year's festival in Newcastle Gateshead proved that WOMEX is the largest event of its kind. Over 500 artists and 35 speakers attended, including Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin and Israeli-English singer Natacha Atlas.  Along with showcases and conferences, the gathering included an offWOMEX program with presentations, meetings, receptions, press conferences and 12 additional showcases, as well as a complementary all-year-long internet marketplace.

This year's festival promises to build on the success of Gateshead.  It will begin on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 25 with Early Bird Registration.  The official opening will take place in the evening, showcasing Spanish artists Mártires Del Compás, Son De La Frontera, Banda de la María and DJ Electroputas.  The Conference, Trade Fair, Film Market and Showcase programs will follow on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The artists in this year's Showcase program are a balance between the known and unknown, the modern and traditional from countries around the world.  From over 600 proposals, a jury of seven, all from different regions and with different music tastes, choose the final program.  The line-up includes Mali's Afel Bocoum & Alkibar, Colombian artists Aterciopelados and Petrona Martínez, Mexico's El Gran Silencio, France's Sergent Garcia as well as Niyaz, a group that blends together its Iranian and American roots.

The Conference program will further bridge the gap between the technical, musical, political and cultural world with its enlisted speakers offering panel discussions on topics all across the board.  The Conference this year will focus on digital issues in the world music marketplace, a topic that the Jury believes needs to be emphasized.  Speakers on this topic will include Germany's Johannes Theurer, Norway's Dagfinn Bach, France's Marc Benaïche, and Kevin Arnold from the USA.

Registration fees (all numbers are for Euros) for the event are 235 for 1 person/company, 550 per company (3 persons), 165 per company (from 4th person onwards), 165 for Media Accreditation (only with press credentials), and 650 for a Trade Fair Stand (persons included). These prices will increase if you register later than Friday October 13 or the morning of October 25.
