Join international roots reggae recording artist, Ras Midas with
special guests, Root Awakening for a full night of politically
conscious reggae at Moe’s Alley on Saturday, April 22 at 9pm.

Hailing from Jamaica, Ras Midas, a reggae sensation that has graced
stages across the world for thirty years, distinguishing himself by
consistently delivering high-energy performances, positive lyrics and
music for the entire family, Ras Midas draws his inspiration and themes
from daily life and his messages hit everything from international and
political issues to love and respect for all.

As a solo artist, Ras Midas’ first international hit, “Kude -A- Bamba”,
was recorded in English and Swahili for Island Records and sold a half
million copies worldwide.  As the first Jamaican artist to record
reggae in French, Ras Midas’ “Rastaman in Exile” earned him and “Album
of the Year” award and rave reviews from such music publications such
as Paris’ “Rock & Folk”, who said that Ras Midas’ music is, “a new,
unique, clear, perfect, crystal sound, interwoven to challenge fashions
and times.”  Rise up and let you body and soul move to the rhythms and
social consciousness of Ras Midas!

Hail up reggae massive!  You might be wondering what’s up with Ras
Midas these days… he just wanted to let you all know that he’s in the
studio mastering and putting the final touches on his ninth solo album
soon to be released this coming summer.  Please stay tuned – it’s going
to be a musical revolution from Ras Midas.

Check out Ras Midas’ recently launched website – www.rasmidas.com for
an in-depth look at the mind and music of a true original who helped
define the history of roots reggae. Peruse the great photos of Ras
Midas’ travels to Africa and beyond, and some recent video samples of
his stirring live performances!

The Root Awakening band from the San Francisco Bay Area has provided
musical accompaniment for Ken Boothe, the Congos, Tippa Irie and many
other international reggae artists. Not content to be one of the most
accomplished backing ensembles on the West Coast, Root Awakening is a
self-contained band specializing in the seminal music of Jamaican
rocksteady and roots reggae, featuring the irresistible rhythms,
arrangements and harmonies that inspired a global phenomenon. Their
award-winning original songs also carry that same classic vibe. For the
last decade, as more and more fans are discovering, this hardworking
crew has earned its place among the best reggae bands in the nation.
Root Awakening’s classic sound is now even better with the addition of
dj/toaster/keyboardist S. Robinson, who throws down conscious, fiery
lyrics in dancehall and old-skool stylee.
