The Root Awakening band from the San Francisco Bay Area has provided musical accompaniment for Ken Boothe, the Congos, Tippa Irie and many other international reggae artists. Not content to be one of the most accomplished backing ensembles on the West Coast, Root Awakening is a self-contained band specializing in the seminal music of Jamaican rocksteady and roots reggae, featuring the irresistible rhythms, arrangements and harmonies that inspired a global phenomenon. Their award-winning original songs also carry that same classic vibe. For the last decade, as more and more fans are discovering, this hardworking crew has earned its place among the best reggae bands in the nation. Root Awakening’s classic sound is now even better with the addition of dj/toaster/keyboardist S. Robinson, who throws down conscious, fiery lyrics in dancehall and old-skool stylee.
