Mozez
So Still
Apace Music

By Jill Ettinger

Published January 5, 2007

From: Jamaica

Hailing from the magically musical isle of Jamaica, young R&B singer Mozez reveals a deeply soulful and tender voice that hints big to his influences like Marvin Gaye and Otis Redding on his solo debut So Still. Brilliantly produced and mixed (two tracks by Guy Sigsworth of Madonna, Björk and Seal fame), Mozez steps into a beautifully rich recording that delivers somewhat surprising but serious inspiration. Opening into a whirling anthem, “Feel Free” lifts the record, and listener, off into a peacefully liberating flight inward. The catchy and light “Troubled Mind” could easily be mistaken for a Lenny Kravitz track (a good one, that is). Guest appearances by Henry Binns of Zero 7 (“Beautiful Day”) and Nightmares on Wax (“Fuzz”) illuminate Mozez’s exceptionally creative, blossoming range with prosperous future written all over it. The title track is stunning. Gorgeously orchestrated (producers Osmond Wright and Tom Quick), sexy vocals by Mozez mesh with lyrics that perhaps sum this record up best: “So still, beauty is found/so still desires no sound/so still heavens around/so still taking you down.”
